Summary
From October 2027, Great British Railways will become a publicly-owned body designed to act as a single "directing mind" for Britain’s rail network, bringing track and train operations together.
Our expert speakers will share how the industry is preparing to safely implement this major change to the way that the industry is organised, whilst exploiting every opportunity to improve the way that risk is managed.
You’ll learn about:
- the key safety risks and opportunities associated with the transition
- what has already been achieved and what remains to be done
- the development of the future Great British Railways (GBR) health and safety management system
- the impact on public and privately owned train operators, and how they are preparing for day 1 and beyond
- There will be an opportunity to put your questions to the expert speakers and discuss the future of
- rail safety as the industry manages the transition towards an integrated rail network.
The speakers will include:
- Rupert Lown (Group Safety, Security, Health and Environment Director, DfT Operator)
- Abigail Patterson (Design lead for safety, including health and safety management system design, Great British Railways)
- Marcus Beard (Partner, Arthur D Little)
- Steve Lewis (Head of Health, Safety and Environment, Southeastern Railway).
The session will be chaired on behalf of the IOSH Rail Community by Simon French OBE CMIOSH, former Chief Inspector of Rail Accidents.
