Leading Saudi Arabian food conglomerate Almarai has formed a partnership with IOSH in a drive to enhance worker protection standards across its operations.

Almarai, which is the largest vertically integrated dairy company in the world, and the largest in the production and distribution of food and beverages in the Middle East, employs about 40,000 people. It began working with the IOSH in 2022 to support the development of OSH awareness.

The IOSH for Business team supported Almarai through the process of becoming an IOSH-approved and licensed training centre with their trainer development programme. This work included supporting 16 of Almarai’s OSH professionals to achieve IOSH membership and putting them through a ‘train the trainer’ course to ensure they have the skills to successfully deliver OSH courses to their colleagues.

“Our mission is to protect our people, our brands and our reputation, by ensuring the leadership team continually cultivates a safety culture by proactively preventing work-related injuries, ill health, and untoward incidents, whilst promoting wellbeing among our employees, and all interested parties that interact with our operations. We will achieve this by applying the highest health, safety and security standards that meet international best practices, such as ISO 45001:2018. Our partnership with IOSH has been a key element on this journey. It has enabled our OSH professionals to not only develop themselves but to ensure they have the competency to deliver courses to our employees, all of which is aimed at enhancing OSH standards across our organisation.”

As well as being a global chartered membership body, IOSH is a leader in developing OSH training courses that play a key role in workforce development around the world. IOSH recognises the flexibility required to support the changing world of business, and through its IOSH for Business team is helping businesses put their OSH strategy first. Gaining the IOSH stamp of approval for in-house training is having a positive impact on businesses, their workforces, and the communities they serve.

As the long-term partnership continues to expand, discussions are already underway about Almarai introducing two IOSH courses in its everyday business – Leading safely for its senior leaders and Working safely for all staff.

“We’re delighted to be able to work with Almarai, to offer our support in developing competency within their business and to help them in their drive to prevent workplace injuries and work-related ill health. This drive aligns closely with IOSH’s vision of a safe and healthy world of work for all, so we are looking forward to progressing with our partnership, to continue to work together for the benefit of Almarai and all of its workforce.”
