IOSH is delighted to have been invited to join the Global Coalition for Social Justice launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in November 2023. The Coalition and its partners were highlighted by the ILO and others as part of World Day of Social Justice on Tuesday 20 February 2024.

With a growing number of partners, including governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, numerous United Nations (UN) system agencies, and international NGOs, this Coalition aims to play a crucial role in accelerating progress towards the 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development Goals, and the Decent Work Agenda.

"Social justice and sustainability are at the heart of IOSH’s vision of a safe and healthy world of work. They’re woven into our mission as a membership organisation, charity and NGO; and they’re a fundamental part of our strategy, Activate 2028. It’s right and just to assure the safety, health and wellbeing of all workers – whether in the formal or the informal economy, and we champion a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work."

"Our decision to join the Global Coalition and lend our support and leadership in matters related to occupational safety and health (OSH) aligns with our overall vision of a safe and healthy world of work. At IOSH we believe strongly in collective action to address global issues and achieve equitable and sustainable outcomes for people and the planet. This new worldwide coalition will serve as a platform to generate increased political commitments, foster concrete actions in support of national priorities towards advancing social justice and decent work – committed to leaving no one behind – and create a forum for exchange and dialogue."

This builds on our established relationship with the ILO and the UN. IOSH has been on its Special List of International NGOs since 2006; in 2021, we signed a formal partnership with ILO’s Labour Administration, Labour Inspection and Occupational Safety and Health Branch (LABADMIN/OSH); and IOSH gained special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2023.

By joining forces with other Coalition participants, we hope both to promote excellence and provide leadership in OSH and amplify collective impact towards realising safer and healthier working environments through interventions at global, regional, national and enterprise level.

On World #SocialJusticeDay, IOSH, the ILO and other partners encourage interested organisations to find out more and support by joining it.
