What qualifications count as level 3?
Common level 3 qualifications include:
Our membership team can assess qualifications from any country – contact us with your certificate details if you're unsure.
What if I don’t have exactly one year’s experience?
We’re pragmatic. If you’ve been working in occupational safety and health for 10-12 months and can demonstrate operational competence, get in touch with us. Well assess your application based on the quality and relevance of your experience, not just the duration.
Do I need to submit a detailed portfolio?
No. You’ll provide a brief description of your experience when you apply, but we don’t require a lengthy portfolio. Most applications are straightforward approvals. We only ask for more information if your qualification is from an unfamiliar provider or your experience is unclear.
What’s the difference between Technical and Certified membership?
Technical membership is for operational health and safety practitioners with level 3 qualifications.
Certified membership is for senior practitioners with degree-level qualifications who work in leadership roles.
Both grades pay similar fees (£159 vs £177) but Certified is the main gateway to Chartered status. It requires higher-level qualifications and more strategic experience.
How much CPD do I need to do?
All Technical members commit to CPD, but there’s no minimum hours requirement.
You record your CPD online and this can include the training and development you’re already doing.
Focus on quality and relevance to your role rather than quantity. You’ll find CPD ideas and templates in your member resources.
