Assess your competence
Start your personalised professional journey
IOSH Blueprint will help you build and demonstrate your competence as an occupational safety and health (OSH) professional. It’s an all-in-one package for career and self-development activity, comprising four elements. Step one is to assess your capabilities and develop your professional plan.
How the self-assessment tool works
You can use the self-assessment tool to benchmark yourself against our competency framework, which covers all the skills, knowledge and behaviours you need to excel in your OSH career.
You’ll complete a self-assessment for each of the three competency areas – technical, core and behavioural. Just follow the instructions on screen. This will help you identify your strengths and areas for improvement.
The process can take up to two hours, but remember it’s an investment in yourself. To get the most out of it, set time aside so you can give it your full focus, work at your own pace and respond in a considered way.
Next, build your personal development plan (PDP) based on the results, your career stage and aspirations. You may want to maintain existing skills, develop new ones, or both. Visit the continuing professional development (CPD) resources library, also hosted in Blueprint, to find the activities that can help you attain the competencies at the correct level.
You can add up to five ‘free type’ PDP areas, which are specific to the industry you work in – for example oil and gas or academia. You can also revisit individual competencies in the self-assessment rather than having to complete the whole exercise again.
Do I need to self-assess?
Self-assessment is mandatory for Technical, Certified and Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows but we encourage all members to do so.
Your professional journey starts here. Blueprint enables you to self-assess, learn and record your continuing professional development. Our CPD programme is one of the great benefits of IOSH membership. If you're not yet a member, why not start your journey today?
