We've been rebuilding this website over the past few months and have launched a beta version for our customers to start using.
Why change now?
Our previous website platform had reached the end of its life and we needed to move and rebuild to avoid vulnerabilities and ensure ongoing support. The site rebuild has therefore been driven by the urgent need to address this risk.
We’ve had to work rapidly and adopt an agile project methodology – releasing updates iteratively, and as quickly as possible. This approach lends itself well to digital projects and has meant we’ve been able to work on the site well before it’s considered ‘finished’, improving as we work through the development process.
We’ve been working with a digital partner called Rock Solid Knowledge (RSK) and emphasis has been on building a robust and scalable solution, that is optimised across all devices.
What’s different?
This website has been developed on up-to-date technology which will allow us to introduce new features and have much greater control over messaging, campaigns and promotions. You'll find a website that is cleaner and more modern. We've simplified the structure and navigation which we tested with our members.
We've also significantly reduced the amount of content. There was too much information on our old website and it had become unsustainable. The vast majority was visited very little and the site felt more like a digital archive than an optimised marketing channel.
We couldn't simply 'lift and shift' content from the old site so we needed to do a full audit and rewrite for launch. We've removed extraneous and obsolete content and will continue to review content as part of an ongoing programme of enhancements.
We consider this to be a ‘beta launch’ as further developments and improvements will follow on once the site is live and we have a better understanding of how users interact with our content. Our plans for phase 2 include bringing over the transactional elements that sit on our old site - iosh.co.uk.
Tell us what you think
Any site change is disruptive. We know that our regular visitors will have learned where certain items are, and found a way to navigate across the current site, even if it wasn’t the most intuitive route. And there will be many differing views for an organisation as diverse as IOSH with what should and shouldn’t be prominent or hosted at all on the website.
It’s only when real users interact with the site that we can start to truly determine needs and wants. You can help us by telling us about your experience.
