Route to Fellowship
How to achieve the highest level of IOSH membership
Our Chartered Fellows demonstrate outstanding dedication and commitment to our profession. They are excellent role models for other members, their organisations and their communities. Our new route to Fellowship means applicants can evidence excellence in both practice and contribution.
Who is it for?
You are eligible to progress to our highest level of professional membership if you have:
- held Chartered membership for five years or more
- a minimum of five years’ relevant leadership experience in a senior-level role with responsibility for occupational safety and health (OSH)
- an up-to-date CPD record in Blueprint.
What does it involve?
You will be asked to submit your application and evidence in the form of an online portfolio through IOSH Blueprint. This is based on seven criteria:
- Chartered membership
- integrity
- leadership and experience
- commitment to the OSH profession
- influencing the OSH profession
- contribution to the OSH profession
- future contribution as a Chartered Fellow.
How long does it take to complete?
You will have 12 months from being accepted on the Fellowship route to complete the process.
How will IOSH assess me?
When you submit your portfolio, we assign it to three independent assessors for review.
The independent assessors make their recommendations. We then assign a senior assessor who makes a final recommendation to our Professional Development and Standards team.
Recommendations will be one of the following:
- recommend to award CFIOSH
- recommend an interview to authenticate evidence
- seek further information for a recommendation to be made
- fail – we will provide guidance on future application and timescale for reapplication.
Our Professional Development and Standards team will contact you to confirm next steps.
This process can take up to five weeks.
How much does it cost?
£435. This covers the full costs of delivering the Fellowship assessment process and does not generate a profit.
In certain circumstances, and for the first time, we can offer concessionary assessment fees to members. Check if you’re eligible for a 50 per cent discount.
Anything else I need to know?
In addition to providing evidence for the specified criteria, you must have recently completed – and passed – IOSH Ethical Practice in OSH e-learning and assessment.
What support is available?
We will advise you how to prepare your portfolio, and what evidence is suitable. Need further help? Contact our Professional Development and Standards team and ask to speak to a professional assessment co-ordinator.
Already on your Fellowship journey?
You need to complete the current process by 22 November 2024 or you’ll be required to register for the new route.
